Elizabeth Holmes had a dream: "she wanted to change radically the blood testing process". She had in mind a machine that with a drop of blood, obtained by pinching a finger, was able to automate the blood test. Elizabeth had also an obsession with Steve Jobs's style of communication and appearance. So, in the end, her dream mixed up with her obsession created an unbelievable efficient money-farm that pushed her, in a single year, from becoming "the youngest and wealthiest self-made female billionaire in America" (Forbes 2015) to "World's Most Disappointing Leader" (Forbes 2016).
John Carreyrou, a reporter of the Wall Street Journal, is the author of the book "Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup". Before the book, he published articles about his investigations regarding Theranos, the multi-billion dollar biotech startup founded by Elizabeth Holmes, and the fact that the machine never worked properly. It's difficult to establish when the Dream became the Lie but nonetheless it resulted in becoming one of the biggest frauds of the last decade. She got funds from big Tech companies and support from politicians (like Hillary Clinton, Henry Kissinger, and others).
The book is brilliantly written and describes how Elizabeth built up the company and Its controversial psychological profile.
In 2019 HBO released the Documentary "The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley"
While reading the book I was into Swans, GNOD, and other bands that I have chosen because they all talk about money and how in our society money became the symbol of power. Power nowadays seems to be even better than God!
