Murubutu has carved out a unique space in Italian hip hop by developing what is often described as didactic rap, a genre where storytelling and education merge with classic hip-hop sounds. Launched in 2009, his solo project places narrative writing at its core, drawing from literature, poetry, and songwriter traditions. Over the years, he has collaborated with prominent artists such as Caparezza, Dargen D’Amico, Rancore, Ghemon, and Giuliano Palma.
Parallel to his musical output, Murubutu has pursued an editorial path, working with Beccogiallo and illustrator Ernesto Anderle (Roby Il Pettirosso). This crossover between rap and literature culminated in works like Rapconti Illustrati and Dante a tempo di rap, inspired by Dante’s Divine Comedy.
His projects consistently explore rap as both an expressive and educational medium, extending beyond albums into talks and live discussions. In 2024, he introduced Letteraturap, a format dedicated to the dialogue between novels and rap music.
The same year marked a musical turning point, as he reinterpreted his repertoire through jazz influences alongside the Moon Jazz Band. This hybrid approach blends the revolutionary roots of jazz and hip hop, offering a fresh perspective on his discography.
Looking ahead, Murubutu’s journey continues with La vita segreta delle città (The Secret Life of Cities), an album released in March 2025, marking a new chapter in his artistic evolution. Murubutu is bringing this album on a European Tour, and Dublin is listed on the 18th of February at the SoundHouse.
On this occasion, he came to Dublin in November to shoot a video about the track dedicated to Nora Barnacle, and James Joyce sharing a passionate, lifelong partnership that began in Dublin in 1904. The Track is titled "Nora e James". Who also open the playlist that Murubutu prepared for YOU!
